Back To School Deep Cleaning Checklist

Back to School Deep Cleaning Checklist

As the official start of fall is around the corner, you may be feeling a bit blue. The kids are already back in school, and with cold weather you will likely be spending more time indoors. What can you do to get ahead before the school year gets busy or the holiday season approaches? Now is a great time to give your home a deep cleaning as the family has been home all summer! We have several things you shouldn’t miss to ensure your home gets the deep cleaning it needs and that your family deserves.

  1. Clean in, out, and around All Kitchen Appliances

Clean kitchen appliances don’t only look good – they are more sanitary and more efficient. Regular appliance cleaning helps to get rid of dirt, food stains, and more before they lead to bigger problems. Additionally, you must think about the cleanliness of areas around kitchen appliances that you don’t see everyday. If your refrigerator hasn’t been moved and cleaned in months (or years), there could be a lot of dirt, grime, and food residue underneath it, for example. This dirt, grime and residue can produce an environment that is favorable for mold and bacterial growth.

  1. Wipe the Exterior of Your Kitchen Cabinets

You might think about cleaning out or organizing the inside of your kitchen cabinets, but what about cleaning the outside? Addressing what may be on the outside of your kitchen cabinets likely only comes to mind when someone in your household is ill. In this case, it is common to only disinfect kitchen cabinet handles to keep the sickness from spreading.

With the whole family not being home to eat every meal, it is a great time to plan to clean the entire outside of your kitchen cabinets. Cleaning the kitchen cabinets will keep them from looking dingy and dull from tiny droplets of cooking grease, food splatters, and steam settling on them.

  1. Disinfect the Kitchen Sink

From using it to temporarily store dirty dishes, wash your hands, rinse dirty fruit and vegetables and more, there are a lot of different things that we use the kitchen sink for. Its everyday use is just one reason why regularly disinfecting your kitchen sink is so important. While water may make contact with your kitchen sink each day, it is not enough to keep it clean and prevent the spread of bacteria. As you probably guessed, the bacteria from your sink can spread and lead to sickness in your home.

  1. Wash All Shower Curtains and Liners

What tasks are on your bathroom cleaning to-do list? Likely it includes getting rid of smudges on mirrors, cleaning up toothpaste left in the bathroom sink, and scrubbing the toilet and shower. Yet, how often does your to-do list include cleaning your shower curtain and liner? Cleaning these should be a priority as they are regularly wet, making it easy for mold and mildew to grow. You will want to find shower curtain and liner cleaning instructions for specific types of materials – whether yours are plastic, vinyl, cloth, or another material.

  1. Clean all blinds

The next time you open the blinds in the morning, or close them after the sun sets, take an extra minute to look at them. If you haven’t cleaned them in a while, odds are you will notice a lot of dust. Although this might just seem to affect their appearance temporarily, there are several other, more serious consequences. Cleaning the blinds in your home is necessary as dusty blinds can cause respiratory issues and again, lead to mold growth. As taking blinds down is not required for cleaning, this task is likely not as difficult or time-consuming as many people may think.
